Getting Started with Blueprint Engineering

Getting Started

To familiarize yourself with your Blueprint kit, we recommend reading pages 20–28 of the Blueprint Educator Guide, which introduces each included piece. You can also explore the Blueprint-o-pedia for more details.

Lesson content is available on Sphero Central.

Best Practices

  • Build your Blueprint Bit circuit on a flat surface before installing it on a Blueprint Build structure.

  • When using the Motor Bit, pair it with an input (like a Potentiometer Bit) before the motor.

  • Use wires to give yourself flexibility—your Bits don’t need to sit directly next to each other.

  • Before turning on a circuit with a Motor Bit, tie back long hair and secure loose clothing.

  • Avoid leaving the Power Bit charging for long periods of time.

Troubleshooting

If your Blueprint circuit isn’t working as expected, try these steps:

  • Check that all Bits are plugged in securely.

  • Make sure your Power Bit isn’t in Shipping Mode—it must be plugged in once after shipping to activate. Learn more about Shipping Mode here.

  • Use the Data Display Bit after your circuit to gather more insight into potential issues.

  • Simplify the circuit by removing the Threshold Bit and/or Potentiometer Bit to isolate the problem.

Storage and Cleaning

  • Store all pieces inside the storage bin to prevent dust or debris buildup—avoid leaving completed builds out long-term.

  • Use a non-alcohol wipe to clean Bits and charging pads.

  • Refer to pages 28–29 of the Blueprint Educator Guide for additional care and maintenance tips.
