Airplane Travel with the Blueprint Power Bit

Before You Fly Checklist

  • ✅ Keep Sphero products with lithium-ion batteries in carry-on baggage when possible.

  • ✅ If packing in checked baggage, make sure devices are completely powered off.

  • ✅ For the Blueprint Engineering Power Bit, place it into shipping mode before packing.

FAA Guidelines

The United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) provides the following guidance for devices containing lithium-ion batteries:

“Devices containing lithium metal batteries or lithium ion batteries, including – but not limited to – smartphones, tablets, cameras and laptops, should be kept in carry-on baggage. If these devices are packed in checked baggage, they should be turned completely off, protected from accidental activation, and packed so they are protected from damage.”

Flying with the Blueprint Engineering Power Bit

If you are traveling with the Power Bit, you can place it into shipping mode so it can be safely packed in checked baggage. When in shipping mode, the Power Bit cannot be turned on by pressing the red power button.

How to Enable Shipping Mode

  1. Plug the Power Bit into the multi-charger or a charging source using the USB charging cable.

  2. Press and hold the red power button.

  3. While holding the button, remove the battery from the multi-charger or unplug it from the USB cable.

  4. Continue holding the red power button for 5 seconds.

  5. Shipping mode will activate. In this mode, the red power button will not turn on the Power Bit.

How to Exit Shipping Mode

To exit shipping mode, plug the Power Bit back into the multi-charger or a charging source using the USB charging cable.
