Using the o28 and o29 LED Matrix Bits
Sphero offers two types of LED Matrix Bits: the o28 square LED matrix and the o29 round LED matrix. Each works differently depending on the app and mode you use.
o28 Square LED Matrix
The o28 LED matrix features a square colorful display that can be controlled using code or other Bits.
Modes
-
SERIAL mode: Full control over the display. You can show custom images or scrolling text. The matrix receives serial data, translating it into images.
-
SIGNAL mode: Use preset programs like Color Wheel, X-Y, Draw, Spectrum, and Scoreboard. The first input bitSnap controls one aspect (like brightness or location), while the auxiliary input controls another (like color or location). The output bitSnap connects to other Bits in a circuit. Two inputs are required to fully control the presets.
Features
-
The case has dimples and magnets, which help position multiple matrices together. Snap the cases together when aligned correctly, and pull apart when adjusting.
-
Pressing the PRESETS button cycles through the available presets. The default is Color Wheel, but the matrix remembers the last preset when powered off and back on.
o29 Round LED Matrix
The o29 round LED matrix has a round colorful display and is only compatible with the codeBit in Fuse.
Modes
The Bit has four modes selectable with the MODE button:
-
ANIMATION – Input voltage controls the speed of the animation.
-
FILL – Input voltage controls the number of rows lit.
-
BRIGHTNESS – Input voltage controls LED brightness when all LEDs are white.
-
COLOR – Input voltage changes the color of all LEDs.
Features
-
Adding a codeBit (Serial connection) allows you to display custom images or scrolling text from programs in the Code Kit app or Fuse.
-
Unlike the square LED matrix, you do not need to press any buttons on the round LED matrix to run code.
-
Most users will need to update the firmware on their codeBits to use Fuse with the round LED matrix. Instructions appear automatically when connecting to a Fuse canvas with round LED matrix commands.
-
For Mac devices, detailed firmware instructions can be found here. Windows or Chromebook users should contact support for guidance.
Quick Tips
-
Use the o28 matrix for both the Code Kit app and Fuse.
-
Use the o29 round matrix only with the codeBit in Fuse.
-
Remember to update firmware when required and select the correct mode for your desired behavior.
