Using QR Codes in Sphero Edu
The Sphero Edu app supports scanning and opening official Sphero Edu QR codes, which link to public programs or lessons. User-created QR codes that link to programs or lessons are also supported. QR codes leading to other websites or services will not work in the app.
Supported Platforms
The QR code scanner is available in the Sphero Edu app version 5.2.4 or higher on the following platforms:
-
iOS
-
Android (including Chromebooks)
-
Amazon Fire OS
-
macOS
Note: QR code scanning is not supported in the Windows version of the app or the Sphero Edu Web App.
Products with QR Codes
Some Sphero products include QR codes for easy access to programs and lessons:
-
Computer Science Foundations: All three curriculum books include QR codes for associated lessons.
-
Sphero Mini Edu Lesson Cards: Bundled with the 16-pack Sphero Mini, these cards include QR codes to quickly open programs.
Creating Your Own QR Codes
You can make any public program or lesson shareable via QR code:
-
Go to Sphero Central and find the program or lesson.
-
Copy the URL from the address bar.
-
Paste the URL into a QR code generator.
Types of QR Codes:
-
Static QR Codes: Directly link to the program or lesson. Compatible on all supported platforms.
-
Dynamic QR Codes: Use a short HTTPS URL, allowing you to update the linked program or lesson without changing the QR code. Note: Dynamic QR codes may appear invalid on Chromebooks; use static codes instead.
Troubleshooting QR Codes
Invalid QR Codes:
-
Ensure the QR code links to a valid Sphero Edu program or lesson.
-
Programs and lessons must be public to be scanned by others.
-
Dynamic QR codes must use HTTPS.
-
Unofficial dynamic QR codes may not work on Chromebooks.
Camera Issues:
-
Grant camera permissions on iOS, Android, macOS, and Amazon Fire OS.
-
If denied, enable permissions in your device’s settings.
Difficulty Scanning:
-
Ensure adequate lighting.
-
Move the QR code further from the camera if it appears blurry.
-
Larger QR codes are easier to scan.
Additional Tip:
If all steps fail on an Android device, try using a third-party QR scanner like Google Lens.
