Using Local Storage in the Sphero Edu Web App

The Sphero Edu Web App allows users to store their work locally through an indexed database. This lets you save programs without needing an account. Review the details below to see if local storage fits your needs or if using an account is a better solution.

Local Storage Limitations

By default, the Web App saves all programs and lesson work to local storage. However, there are several ways this data can be lost:

  • Clearing your browser data or cache will delete locally stored work.

  • Using private browsing modes (e.g., Chrome Incognito or Edge InPrivate) will erase work when the session closes.

  • Deleting your browser or performing a factory reset on your computer removes local storage.

  • Some shared devices, like school Chromebooks, may clear all local data upon sign-out.

  • Low storage on your computer could rarely cause old data to be evicted by the browser.

  • IT restrictions on local storage may impact your ability to save work.

Options if Local Storage is Not Suitable

If your work is at risk of being lost, you have two options:

  1. Back Up Your Programs to Your Device

    • To back up a single program, click the more menu (3 dots) next to the program and choose Download.

    • To back up multiple programs, click Edit above your programs, select the programs, then click Download.

  2. Use a Sphero Central Account or Class Codes

    • Saving work to a Sphero Central account ensures your programs are backed up and accessible from any device.

    • Create an account at Sphero Central to start saving your work.
