Sphero Play App Device Compatibility
The Sphero Play app works with many iOS and Android devices using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE 4.0). Below are the specific operating system and device requirements.
iOS Devices
The Sphero Play app is compatible with the following Apple devices running iOS 10 or higher:
-
iPad (4th generation or newer)
-
iPad Mini (2nd generation or newer)
-
iPhone 5 or newer
-
iPod Touch (6th generation or newer)
Android Devices
To use the Sphero Play app on Android, devices must meet these requirements:
-
Android 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher
-
Bluetooth LE (4.0)
-
Microphone (required for Scream Drive)
-
Accelerometer
-
Gyroscope (required for Golf Drive)
-
Wi-Fi or reliable cellular network connection
Some older Android devices may technically meet these requirements but may not work reliably due to variations in Bluetooth hardware. If you are purchasing devices for classroom use, we recommend contacting our support team here for compatibility guidance.

The following Amazon Fire tablets are supported:
-
Fire HD 8 (2015 model or newer)
-
Fire HD 10 (2015 model or newer)
-

Note: On some devices, Location Permissions are required to scan for Sphero robots. FreeTime and child accounts on Kindle devices have location permissions disabled, so Bluetooth connectivity will not work in this mode.
