Sphero Edu - Privacy and Security
The Sphero Edu platform works with a variety of Sphero robots, including: BOLT, BOLT+, RVR, RVR+, Mini, Sphero 2.0, SPRK Edition, SPRK+, BB-8, BB-9E, R2-D2, R2-Q5, Ollie, and Darkside.
Robot Data

No personally identifiable information (PII) is stored on the robots themselves.

Robots collect only anonymous activation, usage, and version information to support the product experience.

Personal information is stored on the Sphero Central platform only if users create an account.

Users can drive, program, and complete lessons without logging in or sharing personal information.
Accounts & Authentication
Users may choose to create a Sphero Edu account through the Sphero Central platform, or use the apps anonymously. Account benefits include storing data in the cloud and sharing content where permitted by applicable privacy laws.
Sphero offers three general account types:

Learner/Student: Build programs and complete lessons

Educator: Create and manage classes, assign lessons

Parent/Guardian: Create accounts for children and assign lessons
Data Storage & Privacy

All user data is password protected and stored in a secure database accessible only by administrators.

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

COPPA Compliance

Users 13 years or younger require a Parent/Guardian or Educator to set up their account.

All under-13 user data is accessible only to the Learner and their Parent/Guardian or Teacher.

Note: With Class Code logins, students only need to provide a first name and last initial.
