Sphero Edu Jr App: Device Compatibility and Requirements

The Sphero Edu Jr app works with many iOS, Android, and select Amazon Fire devices using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE 4.0). Below are the detailed device requirements and supported features.

iOS Devices

The app is compatible with Apple devices running iOS 12 or higher, including iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touch models. Examples include:

iPad Pro (1st gen) or newer iOS 12+

Android Devices

Android devices must meet the following requirements:

  • Android 5.0 or higher

  • Bluetooth LE (4.0)

  • Wi-Fi capabilities or a reliable cellular connection for installation

Some older Android devices may meet the above specs but may not fully support the app due to variations in Bluetooth hardware quality. For school deployments or bulk purchases,  contact us here to verify compatibility.

The app also runs on Chromebooks that support Android apps. Check Google Play on your device to confirm.

Amazon Fire Tablets

Compatible Amazon Fire tablets include:

  • Fire HD 8 (2015 model or newer)

  • Fire HD 10 (2015 model or newer)

  • Fire 7 (2019 model or newer)

Location permissions are required to scan for Sphero robots. FreeTime or child accounts may have location permissions disabled, preventing Bluetooth connectivity.

Important Notes

Sphero works hard to support as many devices as possible. However, devices with custom ROMs or jailbroken iPhones may experience unexpected issues not accounted for in the official release.
