RVR and RVR+ Battery Guide

Where is the battery located?

The battery is located in the center of the robot, between the two wheels.

To access it:

  1. Use the included RVR/RVR+ key to open the battery door (look for the two lock icons).

  2. If you don’t have the key, you can use a coin, flat-head screwdriver, house key, or another sturdy flat object to open the door.

  3. Once the door is open, press down on the blue battery release latch to release the battery.

⚠️ Caution: The battery is spring-loaded and will pop out about an inch or two. Make sure the opening faces upward so the battery doesn’t fall to the ground.

Lost your battery key?

Your RVR/RVR+ came with a small key to open the battery housing. If you’ve lost it, don’t worry - you can use common household items such as a coin, house key, or flat-head screwdriver to open the battery door.

At this time, we do not offer replacement battery keys for purchase.

How do I charge the battery?

  • You’ll need to remove the battery from the robot to charge it.

  • Use the included USB-C charger and plug it into any USB port.

  • Charging times vary depending on the charger output. For best results, use a wall outlet.

Replacement batteries

Yes, replacement batteries are available for purchase here.

Battery life

  • On a full charge, RVR/RVR+ can drive for about 2 hours.

  • Keep in mind that connected devices (like Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or streaming projects) will drain the battery faster.

Charging times (from empty)

  • 1A charger (computer USB port, basic phone charger): 10–12 hours

  • 2A charger (tablet charger, 2.1A phone charger): 4–6 hours

  • Quick Charge 3.0/USB-PD charger (fast-charging brick, high-end phone charger): 2–4 hours

🔌 Note: Quick Charge requires a USB-C to USB-C cable (not included).

Lost your charger?

No problem—you can use any USB-C charging cable and brick with RVR/RVR+.

Prolonging battery life

  • Disconnect projects when not in use, since the USB and Universal Expansion Port provide power even if RVR/RVR+ looks “off.”

  • For long-term storage, consider removing the battery to prevent slow drain.

Compatibility

Yes—batteries for RVR+ and RVR are cross-compatible. While the RVR+ battery is slightly different, both versions work interchangeably.
