Removal of Community Program Publishing in Sphero Edu
As of May 2, 2022, the following changes have been implemented across all Sphero Edu apps:
-
The "Community Programs" tab has been removed from the Programs section of the apps.
-
Controls to publish programs have been removed from the Program Overview screen, effectively eliminating the ability to publicly share personal programs.
-
These changes also apply to the Sphero Central website.
The Community Lessons section remains available, and lesson submissions are still accepted. These changes only affect publishing programs, not lessons.
Why This Change Happened
-
Student Safety and Classroom Friendliness
Many schools expressed concerns about community content created and published by learners. Removing public program publishing helps make Sphero Edu safer and simpler to use in classrooms. -
Platform Service Updates
Platform updates later in 2022 aligned with feedback from schools and parents, removing certain social features, including the sharing of program content outside of a class or family unit.
What Happens to Your Programs
-
All programs remain accessible in the "My Programs" tab.
-
No program data has been deleted.
-
Copies of previously public programs remain available for your use.
You can still attach programs to your custom lessons and assign them to students or children. There is no change to the ability to use programs within lessons or class code assignments.
Other Ways to Share Programs
Even though public program publishing is no longer available, you can still share programs in other ways:
-
Attach starter programs to lessons for your students.
-
Use the share button in app clients to email, message, or AirDrop programs.
-
With Sphero Edu 7.0.0, you can download programs to your device and share them outside the app.
-
Class code management tools allow teachers to directly share programs with students, and students can optionally share programs back.
