Getting Started with RVR+

Recently purchased an RVR or RVR+? You’re in the right place! This guide will walk you through tips, tricks, and resources to get rolling with your new robot.

Which app do I need?

The Sphero Edu app or the Sphero Edu Web app.

It’s your all-in-one hub for driving, programming, and creating with RVR/RVR+. You can download it on:

  • Android

  • Chromebooks

  • iOS

  • macOS

  • Windows

Why isn’t my RVR/RVR+ starting?

Unlike other Sphero robots, RVR/RVR+ has a power button.

  • If your robot isn’t responding, make sure you’ve pressed the power button.

Does the battery come charged?

Yes—your RVR/RVR+ battery should arrive at about 50% charged.

  • Press the button on the end of the battery to check the charge level.

  • Be sure to fully charge your battery before connecting for the first time.

How do I connect RVR/RVR+?

  1. Charge the battery using the included USB-C cable.

  2. Attach the roll cage to the dev plate, then attach the dev plate to RVR/RVR+.

  3. Insert the fully charged battery.

  4. Download and open the latest version of the Sphero Edu app.

  5. Select RVR/RVR+ as your robot type.

  6. Choose your robot’s ID from the list.

    • The ID is printed on the bottom of your RVR/RVR+ in the format RV-XXXX.

What can I do with my RVR/RVR+?

Here are just a few possibilities:

  • Drive – Use control sliders (or your keyboard on desktop) in the Sphero Edu app.

  • Program – Write code with blocks, Python or JavaScript in the app.

  • Create – Attach accessories, figures, or projects using the dev plate and roll cage.

  • Make – Use the Sphero SDK to integrate with Raspberry Pi, Arduino, micro:bit, and more.

Is RVR/RVR+ waterproof?

No - it’s not waterproof. Please keep your robot on dry land!
