Connecting BOLT

Sphero BOLT connects to your phone, tablet, or computer via Bluetooth (BLE). It is compatible with three apps: Sphero Edu, Sphero Play, and Swift Playgrounds. Before connecting, ensure your BOLT is partially charged, or fully charge it by placing it in the cradle for up to 6 hours, or until the blue cradle light is solid.

Connecting with Sphero Edu (Coding and Learning)

  1. Download the Sphero Edu app on iOS, Android, Kindle, Mac, or Windows.

  2. Open the app and select Connect Robot (or any action that requires a robot).

  3. Hold your device near your BOLT.

  4. Select BOLT from the list of robots, then choose your specific robot.

    • In classrooms, each BOLT has a unique name displayed on the 8x8 LED matrix (SB-XXXX). This name also appears in the robot list.

Connecting with Sphero Play (Fun Drive Modes & Games)

  1. Download the Sphero Play app on iOS or Android.

  2. Open the app and select your BOLT robot.

  3. Hold your device near your BOLT, and it will connect automatically.

Connecting with Swift Playgrounds (Coding in Swift)

  1. Download Swift Playgrounds on iPad.

  2. In the app, tap See All, then Enter a Subscription URL. Paste: https://playgrounds.sphero.com/locales.json and click Subscribe.

  3. Get the Sphero Arcade and Sphero Template playgrounds—both compatible with BOLT.

  4. Open the chosen playground, advance to the first coding page, and tap Connect.

  5. Hold your iPad near your BOLT and select your robot to connect.
