codeBit Firmware Updates

Whether your codeBit needs a firmware update depends on when it was purchased and the type of LED Matrix you are using.

For codeBits Purchased Prior to October 2021

  • Round LED Matrix: You must install a firmware update to use the Round LED Matrix.

  • Square LED Matrix: No update is required. The firmware for the Square LED Matrix was already installed at Sphero’s warehouse.

For codeBits Purchased After October 2021

  • No firmware update is needed. These codeBits are already compatible with both Square and Round LED Matrices.

How Do I Install the Firmware Update?

  • The firmware updater is triggered in Fuse when a Round LED Matrix block is in your code, and the connected codeBit does not have the updated firmware.

  • Detailed instructions for Mac devices can be found here.

  • For Windows or Chromebook devices, please contact support for guidance.

Can I Still Use the Square LED Matrix After Updating?

Yes, the firmware update is compatible with both Square and Round LED Matrices.

Steps for a codeBit Firmware Update

  1. Navigate to https://fuse.littlebits.com/firmware/

  2. Follow the instructions for the update

Alternative Method (if the standard update does not work)

  1. Press and hold the button on the codeBit for 10 seconds (the LED on the board should turn red)

  2. Navigate to https://fuse.littlebits.com/firmware/

  3. Follow only Part 2 of the firmware update instructions
