Charging BOLT

Sphero BOLT has a larger battery than previous models, so it takes a bit longer to charge. Follow these steps for proper charging:

Charging Steps

  1. Connect the Cable: Plug the included USB Micro-B cable into the charging cradle and the other end into a USB power source. Use the provided cable or one capable of providing power, not just data.

  2. Power Source: Ensure the USB port provides enough power. Laptops should be plugged in, but a USB wall charger is recommended.

  3. Place BOLT in the Cradle: Position BOLT upright with the LED matrix facing up. The cradle’s blue LED will blink once per second if charging correctly.

  4. Charging Time: A fully depleted BOLT takes about 6 hours to reach 100%. You can use the robot before it’s fully charged.

  5. Full Charge: The blue LED on the cradle will turn solid when charging is complete. A full charge lasts at least 2 hours of continuous play and up to 5+ hours over multiple sessions.

  6. Check Battery Level: Connect to BOLT in the Sphero Edu app to see the battery icon.

  7. Multiple BOLTs: Use a USB hub that supports at least 600mAh per port. Avoid moving the cradle during charging.

After Charging

Avoid leaving BOLT on its Charging Cradle indefinitely. Unlike BOLT+, it does not have smart charging, so repeated charging cycles can reduce battery life. If you'd like to keep it on the cradle after charging, simply unplug it from the outlet.

Troubleshooting

If BOLT isn’t charging, try the following:

  • Use a different USB cable.

  • Try a different USB port or a wall charger.

  • Reposition BOLT in the cradle to ensure proper contact.

  • Press the button on the charger to reset BOLT.
