BOLT+ Temperature Warnings
Occasionally, you may see temperature warnings while using the Sphero Edu app with your Sphero BOLT+. Below are the types of warnings, why they happen, and what to do.
Temperature Warning
Because Sphero BOLT+ has a sealed shell, heat can build up inside during certain conditions. This may trigger a temperature warning, even though your robot is still safe to use.
Common causes include:
-
Heavy use of the display (images, animations, text)
-
Extensive motor use (driving)
-
Charging in the cradle
-
High room or outdoor temperatures
-
Direct sunlight or strong light sources
What to do:
Your BOLT+ will keep working normally, but moving it out of direct sunlight or into a cooler space can help prevent further warnings if you plan to keep using it.
Critical Temperature Warning
If heat continues to rise, you may see a critical temperature warning. In this case, your BOLT+ will temporarily disable the display to protect itself.
What to do:
-
Disconnect from your BOLT+ and let it power down.
-
Move it out of direct sunlight and remove it from the charging cradle.
-
Allow about 30 minutes for it to cool. Once cooled, all features will automatically be re-enabled.
