BOLT+ Speed and Distance Accuracy
When using roll blocks and commands with BOLT+, you may notice slight variations in the distance your robot travels. Factors that can affect driving include:
-
Driving incline
-
Surface texture
-
Battery level
-
Temperature
-
Program code
Some variance in accuracy, speed, and distance is expected. BOLT+ is top-heavy due to its LED screen, so if it stops quickly, it may topple. To reduce tipping and improve stability, BOLT+ runs slightly slower than SPRK+ and BOLT, with reduced maximum speed and acceleration.
Coding Commands for Distance
Sphero Edu provides commands to control how far or how long BOLT+ drives:
-
Drive to Time: Available for all robot types.
-
Drive to Distance: Introduced in 2024 and available for BOLT+ and RVR+.
-
This command offers more accurate, repeatable results.
-
Expect up to 10% variance for short distances and 5% variance for longer distances.
-
These small differences are normal and help maintain BOLT+’s stability and overall driving accuracy.
